Cognitive functions are the mental processes that allow us to receive, select, store, transform, develop, and recover information that we have received from external stimuli. This process allows us to understand and to relate to the world more effectively.
Cognitive testing can also identify any cognitive impairment or early signs of dementia. Early detection leads to better results in finding the root cause of an illness. Faster diagnoses and treatment plans improve a patient’s quality of life.
To test congitive function a test is carried out. This involves answering a series of questions and/or performing simple tasks. They are designed to help measure mental functions, such as memory, language, and the ability to recognize objects. The most common types of tests are: Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test or the Mini Mental State Examination.
