About Johanne Murphy

The Waterfall Clinic was established 2 years ago by Johanne Murphy and has grown and become an integral part of the community since then.

At The Waterfall Clinic we recognise that it is extremely important to continue rehabilitation in order to avoid deterioration of functions and to aim for the best possible recovery. We support patients throughout the entire recovery process, work with the latest devices and technologies and continuously implement novel treatment options. We only use treatments that are backed by evidence, either from neuroscience, clinical research, or expert opinion and experience.

Johanne is a Dementia Champion and has been actively increasing Dementia awareness within the local community. She provides Dementia awareness training to local companies promoting dementia friendly communities. Johanne was runner up in the DCU Dementia elevator award 2 years ago. She was commended for creating a dementia friendly shopping experience within the Musgraves SuperValu group. Johanne delivered dementia awareness training to staff members in numerous SuperValu supermarkets which were in turn recognized as dementia friendly shopping environments.

Johanne also works closely with Homecare solutions providing mobility and functional assessments for their clients. She also delivers training to their care staff and works closely with them so they can assist clients with home exercise programmes. The Waterfall Clinic won the local and the overall County award for pride of premises in 2019. This was a big achievement for a business that was just established. The Waterfall Clinic is striving to be a Centre of excellence in Neurological rehabilitation in terms of equipment and advancing neurotechnology, more importantly, the Caring, friendly and always professional staff will make the clinic a centre of excellence in the not too distant future.

Johanne is the Clinical lead and the founder of The Waterfall Clinic. She graduated from University of Ulster in 1995 and worked for over 20 years in the NHS and the HSE gaining experience in many fields before specialising in Neurology and Gerontology.  Johanne has worked both in the acute hospital and community setting treating a variety of neurological, orthopaedic, and musculoskeletal conditions. Johanne was appointed senior physiotherapist in orthopaedics in Our Lady’s hospital Navan in 1998, where she worked closely with the orthopaedic surgeons and was involved in the development of a new orthopaedic rehabilitation service. Johanne then was appointed to a senior post in Naas hospital where she specialised in Neurology and Gerontology. Johanne has attained a Masters in Neurology and Gerontology from The Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin and has gained experience in Acute Neurology, Neurological Rehabilitation, and the treatment of Stroke. She also has expertise treating a variety of neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, multi system atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy, facial palsy, vertigo, acquired brain injury falls, and functional neurological disorders. Johanne also specialises in the management of people with dementia and obtained a post graduate diploma in Dementia studies from University of Stirling in 2018.

Johanne uses a combination of hands-on physiotherapy, electrotherapy, exercise, and rehabilitation technology to maximise patients potential and rehabilitation goals.

Due to having worked within the HSE, Johanne understands the importance of working as a member of a multidisciplinary team and maintains good links with local hospital services, consultants, and GP’s. Johanne provides education sessions and in-service training to physiotherapists and homecare providers in the local community.
